🌍 Wilson’s Country Invests £2 Million in Anaerobic Digestion Plant to Power Sustainable Farming in Northern Ireland

As a leading name in the potato sector in Northern Ireland, we’re proud to announce our move toward a cleaner, greener future: a £2 million investment in a cutting-edge anaerobic digestion (AD) plant at our County Armagh headquarters.

Why We’re Investing in Renewable Energy for Agriculture

Sustainability is no longer optional in agriculture — it’s essential. Our new AD plant converts organic waste from our potato processing operation — including peelings, pulp, and outgrades — and combines with farm waste to produce renewable energy and nutrient-rich fertiliser.

This technology allows us to:

• Reduce our carbon emissions by over 160 tonnes of CO₂e* annually
• Generate clean electricity
• Support a more circular economy within Northern Ireland’s agri-food sector

By producing our own energy from waste, we’re reducing dependency on fossil fuels and taking a big step toward a feasible net-zero future.

As part of our mission to lead in sustainable farming in Northern Ireland, this investment strengthens our ability to operate responsibly from field to fork. The anaerobic digestion process transforms what used to be waste into something with real value — proving that sustainability and efficiency can go hand in hand.

Our investment also boosted local economic activity, supporting construction jobs and has created a new technical role.
