NEW YEAR, NEW YOU!
JANUARY. That time of year when resolutions are made! The number one New Year Resolution is to Lose Weight/Eat healthy. So, where does the humble spud fit into this New You?
Potatoes are a wonderfully versatile vegetable!
They provide us with nutrients such as fibre and potassium, are naturally fat free and gluten free and are an excellent source of B vitamins and vitamin C.
Potatoes are also a high fibre food, they contain both soluble and insoluble fibre which is beneficial to your overall health. They keep you feeling fuller for longer – definitely a positive – and maintain a healthy bowel.
Some simple facts:
1. A potato contains more potassium than a banana
2. A medium baked potato provides 1/3 of the recommended daily intake of vitamin C (180g of rice or 220g pasta do not contain any!)
3. A jacket potato will provide more fibre than two slices of wholemeal bread.
Packed with essential carbohydrates, potassium, calcium and magnesium, potatoes are a fantastic addition to any healthy meal.
